Description

The second painting in the triptych, also created using the oil technique, is characterized by playfulness and lightheartedness.

These two elements, evident in the playful expressions and the affectionate, challenging gaze between the twins, contrast with the negative emotions that the sight of twins often evoked in ancient times.

In the past, the identicalness and indistinguishability of two or more people sparked wonder but also a sense of anxiety—the anxiety of not being able to recognize someone based on their physical features as we are accustomed to doing.

Although today there is a strong tendency toward conformity, driven by fashion and the influence of social media on our lives, contemporary culture still harbors an incredible fear of identicalness.

This painting seeks to break the silence, inviting the viewer to reflect on the complexity of identity and similarity, on the importance of details, such as in this case the use of the same colors for the girls’ clothing, which are, however, reversed in a chiasmus.
