Description

In the second painting of the first triptych in the series “Beyond the Double,” the twin sisters reveal themselves in a balance between individuality and connection. Martina is depicted in profile on the left, with an open and proud gaze, while Eleonora, behind her, embodies a sweet and dreamy expression. Their mouths almost touch and coincide almost perfectly, symbolizing a deep bond. The artist exalts eyes and lips, reflecting on the uniqueness of each face and on the details that make up every facial expression, complex and irreplaceable.

The use of various techniques – pencil, charcoal, sanguine, sepia, and oil – together with gold leaf, lends the composition a material and almost three-dimensional dimension, inviting the viewer to immerse themselves in the depth of the emotions narrated. Through this artwork, the artist documents the journey of growth and differentiation that characterizes the lives of twins. Although they may sometimes be identical at birth, their experiences and choices lead them on unique paths, making them distinct individuals. Being twins entails a unique challenge, balancing between fusion and separation: a twin can represent for the other both a perfect reflection and a catalyst for the development of individuality.

This series constitutes a profound exploration of twin and individual identity. Every individual struggles daily to find their place in the world, while preserving their uniqueness and authenticity.
