Description

In this intense and symbolic portrait, the artist depicts Txai Suruí, a young Indigenous Brazilian leader known for her commitment to defending the Amazon Rainforest. Her gaze, direct and profound, dominates the composition: more than just a face, she is a presence that questions and engages.

Txai becomes a universal symbol of resistance and connection to the Earth. Magaly Arocha chose to portray her as a tribute to the women who, like her, protect nature with courage and ancestral wisdom.

Each element carries a specific meaning:

– The cocar, a traditional feather headdress, represents cultural identity and strength — an emblem of Indigenous resistance.
– The huayruro seeds, woven into red and black threads, are traditional amulets of protection and abundance, respectfully gathered from the forest.

– Her gaze reflects both strength and vulnerability — the essence of those who fight for something greater than themselves.

Txai is an invitation to pause, to observe, and to feel the heartbeat of the Earth.

This painting becomes both memory and message, dedicated to those who believe that art can be an act of beauty, resistance, and awareness.
